What is the difference between Shred-it and Securit?

Securit is an international information security company that has a number of integrated service offerings, including records management, data protection and document destruction. Shred-it is the brand name of the document destruction branch of our business.

Why does it have a different name? Because our entire company started out as Shred-it, a North American leader in document destruction. When we saw that our clients had information security needs in addition to shredding, we decided to offer services under the Securit umbrella that would meet their needs – and allow them to continue working with a company they know and trust.

What steps are you taking towards corporate responsibility?

At Securit, we have a strong commitment to the community – and to the planet.

Every time two of our containers are filled, a tree is saved. Securit recycles all shredded paper documents and proudly supports the manufacture of many different types of recycled paper products. See our information on environmental responsibility for more information.

We also have a variety of programs to help people – both in our immediate communities, and those in need around the world. The Securit Foundation has committed $1 million over four years to fund three distinct programs:
  • Community-based charities in the markets we serve
  • Post-secondary scholarships for children of employees
  • Special projects in developing countries




Does Securit-it conduct background checks on its employees?

Yes. All of our Securit associates undergo background checks, and all Customer Service Representatives are security screened and insured.

I have offices in several places. Can you provide service to those locations as well?

Absolutely. We service clients on five continents, and our dedicated National Accounts Program offers centralized management of your destruction services – no matter where your offices are located.

Do you educate your employees on legislative policies and procedures?

Yes. Securit’s in-house Learning and Organizational Development department trains our staff in all aspects of our business. We produce and distribute newsletters and electronic aids that keep our staff informed about recent changes in legislation. How often do your employees undergo training?

Comprehensive training is conducted both in a Head Office setting and in the field. The combination of these two processes means that we are training our staff on new aspects of our business on an ongoing basis.

Do you have a contract that spells out performance and responsibility details?

Yes. Securit provides a detailed service agreement identifying roles and responsibilities so you have a full understanding of what you are paying for while we protect your information.
